The World of Medical Assisting

If you are an individual that truly enjoys working directly with physicians, nurses and others in a medial office or clinic, then the medical assisting field offers many opportunities, regardless of your gender. The field of medical assisting is a dynamic profession that is ever-changing and growing. The common goal of these professionals is the care and medical treatment of patients.

This is a rewarding profession, and contrary to stereotyped perceptions, male medical assistants are highly valued and respected as are their female counterparts. In a study conducted in 2002, indicated that male medical assistants were 14 % of the medical assistant training courses.

In this medical career field, the duties include front office tasks mostly consisting of administrative work, such as answering phones, arranging appointments and assisting patients with various forms; while the back office duties consists of clinical work, related to patient care, such as taking vital signs and performing simple diagnostic tests, and sterilizing and cleaning equipment and examination rooms.

It’s worth noting that most medical assistants report being well-liked by their patients. In the 21st century, medical assistants are being asked to take on increasingly complex duties in either the front or back office. Consider becoming a certified medical assistant.
